Since the start of the era of DOAKs, their therapeutical use is not only established for patients with atrial fibrillation and venous thromboembolism but also their use for patients with cancer-associated thrombosis (CAT) gains in significance. Recent data show, that the use of DOAKs in this patient group is non-inferior to LMWH and thus can be a good alternative in the treatment of CAT. Nevertheless, certain limitations such as cancer type or variable dosing regimens need to be considered before their use. For thromboprophylaxis in tumor patients, DOAKs are also recommended in selected patient groups.
Kurzfassung: Seit der Verfügbarkeit der DOAKs hat sich nicht nur der therapeutische Zugang der VTE und des Vorhofflimmerns geändert, neue Daten schreiben den DOAKs auch eine immer größere Rolle in der Prophylaxe und Therapie der tumorassoziierten Thrombose (CAT) zu. Derzeit stellen DOAKs eine gute Alternative zu LMWH in der Therapie der CAT dar. Jedoch gilt es einige Limitierungen wie Tumorentität oder variable Dosierungsmöglichkeiten vor deren Anwendung zu bedenken. Auch in der tumorassoziierten VTE-Prophylaxe wird für eine selektionierte Patientengruppe ebenfalls der Einsatz von DOAKs empfohlen.
