Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of mortality both in Type 1 (insulin-dependent) and in Type 2 (non-insulin-dependent) patients. Reduction of this excessive cardiovascular mortality rate is possible and represents the main aim of diabetes care. However, some aspects of cardiovascular disease may differ between diabetic and non-diabetic patients.
