Several recent meta-analyses have addressed the benefit of vitamin D on fracture reduction with conflicting findings. This article will first summarize anti-fracture efficacy from double-blind randomized trials of oral vitamin D supplementation. Then, this article will address why meta-analyses with alternative approaches, extending to open design trials and trials that tested intra-muscular vitamin D, have reported differential findings.
