Journal für Reproduktionsmedizin und Endokrinologie - Journal of Reproductive Medicine and Endocrinology 2009; 6 (1): 27-31

The results of 35 polar body diagnosis (PBD) cycles performed at our center confirm that this method is a valuable tool for preimplantation diagnosis (PGD) in families at risk of transmitting a monogenic disorder. Although our experience with PBD cycles is limited, we found that the delivery rate is higher after PBD compared to PGD with blastomere biopsy (30 vs. 23 %). Furthermore, to increase the number of oocytes available for a PBD cycle in women with a diminished ovarian reserve, vitrification of oocytes collected from several preceding stimulation cycles has been carried out successfully.
