Telmisartan produces substantial antihypertensive efficacy with a dose of 40 mg, and so this is the recommended starting dose.1,2 Further blood pressure reductions can be achieved with the 80 mg dose.1,2 If additional blood-pressure lowering power is needed, telmisartan can be given in fixed-dose combination with the diuretic HCTZ.
