The efficacy of telmisartan at doses of 40 mg and 80 mg was compared with that of enalapril 20 mg in a 12-week multicentre, randomized, parallel-group, placebo-controlled study that included 440 patients with mild-to-moderate hypertension.1 The reduction in blood pressure with telmisartan was greater than with enalapril and reached statistical significance for the telmisartan 80 mg arm.
