As the indication for transcatheter aortic valve implantation has been expanded and the devices have steadily improved, there is an increasing number of TAVI procedures worldwide in high as well as in low-risk patients.
In the following article the current indication for TAVI, the limitations, procedural aspects and follow-up including the medical therapy will be discussed.

Kurzfassung: Mit der Ausweitung der Indikation der Transkatheter-Aortenklappenimplantation (TAVI) und Verbesserung der Devices kam es weltweit zu einer Zunahme der Prozeduren sowohl im Hoch- als auch im Niedrigrisiko-Bereich.
In dieser Übersicht werden die aktuellen Indi­kationen für TAVI mit den Limitationen, prozedurale Aspekte und Nachsorge inklusive der postinter­ventionellen medikamentösen Therapie darge­stellt.
